Red roses in short supply on Valentine's day

VARANASI: It will be difficult to gift a red rose this Valentine's Day. The low production of red roses in the region and the whole of northern India has caused an acute shortage of red roses in the city.
According to Govind Kumar Verma, a flourist and supplier of decorative flowers in Luxa, the long lasting winters have played a major role in this."Roses need hot and humid climate to grow. However, this year the horticulturists have faced tremendous difficulty in growing the flower. A plant that should give nearly three-four flowers a day has produced only one-two flowers. On the other a hand, it was difficult to take out even 100 red roses from a field that has a capacity of producing approximately 800 flowers a day," informed Verma.
Notably, a large quantity of flowers in the city is brought from adjoining villages specially Raja Talab, Lohta, Sundarpur, Shivpur, Babatpur and neighbouring districts like Allahabad and Lucknow. The occasional demand like for Valentine's Day is being met by ordering flowers from Pune, Bangalore, Delhi and Kolkata. But if the flourists of the city are to be believed, the climate has affected rose production in all these areas.
However there is a huge demand for roses in the town but buyers, especially youngsters

Pakistan catch united states man after Gun bullets found in baggage

PESHAWAR, Pakistan- An American was held for questioning in Pakistan on Tuesday after security officials at the airport in northwestern Peshawar discovered bullets in his luggage, police said, the latest likely irritant in ties between the two countries. The American was due to fly from Peshawar to the capital Islamabad, said Tahir Ayub, a senior police superintendent."He has been detained at the airport and is under interrogation," Ayub told Reuters. "We are in contact with the foreign office in Islamabad to check about his background and tell us if he has diplomatic immunity."Ayub said a pistol and 12 magazine rounds had been recovered from the man's luggage, while another police officer said security officials had only found bullets.A U.S. official in Islamabad said the embassy was looking into the details of the reports. The detention is likely to revive memories of Raymond Davis, an American CIA contractor who shot and killed two Pakistanis in the eastern city of Lahore in January 2011.A third Pakistani died when he was hit by an embassy vehicle racing to extract Davis from the scene where an angry mob had gathered. After initial confusion, the U.S. embassy in Islamabad said Davis had diplomatic immunity, which Pakistan refused to recognize. Davis spent almost two months in jail before being released after the payment of compensation to the families of the two men killed. The incident was a major blow to the relationship between the United States and Pakistan, a key ally in the war on terror.Ties were just beginning to thaw when U.S. commandos killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in a Pakistani military town on May 2 in a secret raid which infuriated Islamabad.

General Kayani said parliament to decide restoration of NATO supply and relations with US,says defence budget is 18pc & not 70pc

JACOBABAD, RAWALPINDI, (SANA): Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that the decisions regarding restoration of NATO supply and Pak-US relations will be made by the Parliament and parliamentary committee on national security, adding that defence budget of the country is 18 percent and not 70 percent, adding that wrong facts are presented in talk shows regarding defence budget.
According to a statement issued by ISPR, Gen Kayani said that even out of that paltry 18 percent only 8-9 percent of funds trickled down to the sentinels of the country, which was a matter of serious concern.
He said that the defence budget has been decreased due to increase of dollar price and soaring prices of commodities, adding that the 1.5 billion dollars of coalition support fund also has not been received by army, adding that instead of the ongoing war against terrorism the defence budget is decreasing.
Army Chief said that this is wrong impression that Pakistani fighter jets are unable to hit the NATO aircrafts.
General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani said that Parliament would decide weather Nato supply route should restore or not, adding that Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani’s statement regarding Nato supply was very clear.
The Army chief appreciated the role of Pakistan Air Force during operation in tribal areas, adding that F-16 jets would be seldom used in war on terror.
Meanwhile talking to media persons at Shahbaz airbase in Jacobabad Gen Kayani said that decisions regarding the restoration of NATO’s supply and Pak-US relations will be made by the Parliament.
Meanwhile Air Chief Rao Qamar Suleman said Shahbaz Airbase is in complete control of Pakistan’s Air Force, adding that the armed forces of the country are fully capable to give befitting reply of any aggression.
He said that there is nothing in F-16 fighter jets which could stop hitting US planes, adding that there is no danger to the defence of the country. He said that the drones are being prepared in Pakistan but these are not enjoying the facility of firing missiles, adding that Pakistani air force is fully prepared to reply the Indian war plan.
